Mind map
A mind map is a diagram used to visually organize information. Making a mind map can help you acquaint yourself with a subject. It is created by centring the subject that you are researching. Around it, you place words that come to mind when you think of the subject.
A mind map can provide a good overview of the various aspects of your subject. This makes it a lot easier to eventually choose your angle. Should your (provisional) subject already be more defined, a mind map can help you determine your main question, sub-questions and search questions.
As an HvA student, you can use the online programme Mindjet to easily create a digital mind map. The HvA has made this program available through its network.
Search logbook
In order to give structure to your de sk research and carrying it out systematically, it is wise to keep track of the resources and the combinations of search terms you used. It is good to know in which sources and using which keyword combinations you have searched. This information can be conveniently noted down in a search logbook.
