Tips for thinking up search terms
In their publications, academics and other professionals make use of jargon. If you are not familiar with this jargon, you may miss important publications. You should also take into account the fact that the recognised language in the academic world is English.
- Look at several academic publications or trade publications related to your subject in order to find the specific jargon and thus the subject-oriented terms you can use.
- Look for specific (subject-oriented) terms by trying out a number of search terms you already have. By going through the results you will find new search terms. Backward chaining is a way to do this.
