Introduction STIP

Smart Training for Information skills in Practice

STIP was developed by the HvA Library to support students in the area of information skills. STIP can be used for all questions relating to searching, finding and using (scholarly and subject-oriented) information. STIP teaches you:

  • how to formulate an effective search query;
  • ways to think up accurate search terms;
  • how to find the right resources;
  • searching techniques and methods;
  • how to assess the information found;
  • how to correctly process this information.

STIP consists of six modules. The Need to know sections contain information you really must comprehend. Occasionally, a reference to a section with additional information (Nice to know) will be provided. Use the mouseover to get short definitions of the dotted-underlined terms. Each module has a summary with a short quiz (Do I Know?) to test yourself.

You can complete STIP module by module. Alternatively, use the Tagcloud to access one of the subjects covered separately.
